Last week renowned Canadian documentarian Peter Wintonick visited Algonquin College for a wide-ranging discussion on the future of docmedia. A graduate of Film Production at Algonquin, Peter is most well known for Manufacturing Consent: Noam Chomsky and the Media, which he co-directed with Mark Achbar. As an active ambassador of documentary he is currently involved in an array of docmedia projects and festivals, including contributing to P.O.V. magazine, participating in the International Documentary FIlm Festival Amsterdam (IDFA), and producing and directing films for EyeSteel Films, as well as his own production company, Necessary Illusions.
Peter encouraged students to find innovative ways for expressing their vision through new media, and called on filmmakers to be guided by personal manifestos. He also shared his own key to success: "I don't take 'no' for an answer, and I've been lucky to make the films I want to make."
