Many of my life choices have been influenced by documentaries. At the
end of high school I was exposed to the film Earthlings by Nation
Earth, an incredible film that documents human's treatment of animals.
Watching this film, I realized how powerful raw, real footage can be
to expose truths and give voices to the voiceless.
At first I was quite hesitant to create media that could cause tension
in my relationships and society. I naturally avoid conflict and
confrontation. However, since I believe people are inherently good, I
believe that exposing society to information about the environment,
animals, and nutrition, in an open, provocative manner can help
individuals make more informed decisions.
I chose this documentary program because it seemed to be a natural
combination of my artistic and research interests. I've been always
been involved in theatre, film, and festivals. I have just finished a
degree in Honours Business Administration from the Richard Ivey School
of Business at the University of Western Ontario. Today I am looking
to apply my business skills to this meaningful industry.
I am very excited to be part of the documentary production program with a class of diverse interests and
career backgrounds, and I look forward to faculty guidance as I gain the courage to
begin to present controversial information.

What inspires me to be a documentary filmmaker? Well, a lot of things.
There are so many stories to be told, so many perspectives to be seen,
so many wrongs to be righted, and the medium of film/video is one the
most effective and affective ways of combining all of these things.
It gives you the capability of connecting to people you would otherwise be unable to.
It’s a way to take your creativity, passion, determination, hopes and dreams, and put
them all together for the world to enjoy, share, think about and react to.
Today, anyone has the ability to be a storyteller. The technology is there and the world is your stage. It just takes the confidence to go out and find those stories. Don’t be afraid to explore, to speak out, and to give it your all, because you never know where it’ll take you.

I have always had a great interest in meeting all sorts of unique and interesting people, and telling their stories seemed like a dream opportunity. I enjoy documentaries because unlike other films, the authenticity is there, the feelings are real, and the emotion is unstaged (well hopefully). The lens does not lie, and that is why I love filmmaking.
My interests tend to lie within the medical documentary field. Learning about how the body works and finding out what disorders and diseases are out there that are still unknown or misunderstood. Coming straight out of university with a degree in communications and film, creating documentaries is the best of both worlds, using film to communicate to the public.

As a Korean-Canadian woman who views the world as her backyard, yet sees the universe in one human soul, I've always had a passion to explore the depths and breadth of how one story affects the whole.
My life motto: "The glory of god is a human being fully alive."
My motivation: Six offspring in my care
My weakness: Heartfelt words in print
My goal: Bringing heartfelt images to the screen
